This item was a great purchase. I was a little skeptical about buying it since I own the PSP 1000 model (got it day it was released). I saw before that there were not a whole lot of batteries to choose from for my model. I was even thinking about buying a third party model before and I am glad I didn't. This battery is Sony's brand name one. I heard that some third party models left a lot to be desired (short battery life, incompatible, etc). This battery works perfectly with my 1000 model. It should also work with 2000 and 3000 models (according to the packaging). Definitely get this one if you're on the lookout for a new or secondary PSP battery. Just remember, this battery is NOT designed to work with the newer PSP Go.

This is the new PSP battery, not the one that was discontinued on August 2008. It is basically the same as the one discontinued except for the packaging, I must admit that I was a little undecided on getting this, because there are a lot of Fake Batteries that look exactly the same as the originals, but this is the real thing, it is exactly as shown in the picture.

Sony's psp extended life battery kit is a must purchase for anyone who plays their psp frequently. The battery kit comes complete with a silver and a black battery cover which connects easily onto the back of the system--and the battery itself of course. The covers are for owners of the silver and black psps respectively. The battery is noticeably thicker than the standard battery that comes with the system at the time of purchase,and as a result it gives the player much more playing time with the system no matter which features you use--games,music,video-whatever. It does take longer to charge and it a bit more expensive than the standard battery,but it is worth the expense. Sony gets a high mark for this one.

The two PSP batteries I ordered from Beach Audio through Amazon have both been charged and used in my Phat PSP (1001 model) and Slim PSP (2001 model). They hold their charge well, having given me about 6 ~ 7 hours of play time on either system (slightly more on the Slim, of course). I am always skeptical of non-Sony brand batteries, as I've tried a couple of other off-brand external batteries with disastrous results - I imported two large, external battery packs from Asia a couple of years ago which didn't have an automatic over-charge breaker, and they both burned out on the second charge. These batteries, however, seem like the real deal, as they have both been charged over-night without burning out. I don't get the feeling they will die anytime soon, either. Quality stuff. Recommended.

Like all the other reviewers are saying this is a real Sony manufactured battery. It's the size of the original 1000 model PSP battery, so there is no need to change the back plate, but for the 2000 and 3000 or slim & lite models it comes with 2 plates, a glossy black plate and glossy silver that makes the battery fit tightly into place by letting the plating come out a couple centimeters. It offers me on my 2000 model 13 hours on highest brightness setting, then 15 on second setting, then 17 on the lowest. It doesn't come with a charge, but since one is waiting for the battery in the first place like me your not in to big a hurry to go on a road trip right. This will not work with the PSP Go even if you take one apart for whatever reason. I took a 1 hour drive playing my PSP on the lowest brightness setting, but the charge is still at %100.
This is my first review so excuse any details I might have missed.
