Replaces the original PSP AC adapter Dec 14, 2009
By A. Dent
"Aragorn"
As far as I can tell, this is the official Sony AC adapter for the PSP. It works as well as the original and, after a couple of weeks of use, it didn't die. Same can't be said about the original AC adapter which stopped working after six months and had to be replaced.
Specs/details:
- Compatible with PSP 1000/2000/3000 - Contents: AC adaptor, 5 ft. chord - Input: AC 100 - 240V, 0.3A, 50/60Hz - Output: DC 5V, 2000mA - 1 yr. limited warranty - Made in the Philippines
I will grant this AC adapter 3 stars meaning "It's Okay" because, even though it works, its predecessor was short-lived and - see story below - Sony seems unable to get as many new ones as needed to replace failed ones under their warranty obligations. Does this mean that lots of AC adapters die prematurely or is it just Sony unable to provide for a normal amount of warranty replacements? I don't know but my one-month wait and the fact the the original only lasted six months make me suspicious.

Warranty support story:
So, what do you do when your original PSP AC Adapter dies? You call Sony's warranty service if your PSP is still under warranty or you look for a replacement at Amazon. Ours was under warranty so we called Sony. They will want your PSP's serial number, model number (can't they deduce that from the serial number????) and some proof of purchase - they were okay with me printing the Amazon invoice for proof.
At that point, they will tell you that you have to send your PSP in for repair and they will offer to send you a prepaid box for UPS to pick it up. IF you know for a fact that it's the AC adapter (I did because we have other PSPs in the house and could test) tell them so and the Sony person may understand that all you need fixing is the AC adapter, not the PSP. You will have to ship it to them - for some reason, they want you to pay if you ship the adapter only and they will cover shipping back to you.
If they find the AC adapter to be defective - they did, in our case - they will replace it with a new one, if or when they get one in stock. I wasn't THAT lucky. They didn't have AC adapters in stock so they told me to wait. One month later, they still didn't have AC adapters in stock but they had a waiting list so the nice Sony person suggested that I buy one from Amazon and they would send me a free game instead. I agreed and, two days later I had my new AC adapter from Amazon. Shortly after that, I got my 'free' or consolation Little Big Planet for the PSP from Sony. Not totally bad but... still, this after more than one month waiting.

By matt.mingkee this AC adaptor has 5V 2A DC output, it also can be used on Dell and HP pdas (with plug adaptor)
works perfectly
I also use it with Dell X50 charging cradle (for charging extra battery) when not charging PSP

Not The Real Thing Jan 24, 2010
By SjkBacon This knock off brand charger lasted only a few months. Don't be fooled, this is not made by Sony and is not anywhere near as sturdy as the real thing. Don't make the mistake of thinking this is the real thing. It won't last more than a few months.

A little worried from the image. Dec 14, 2011
By Vyusher

I'm a frugal person. I tend to buy something when I find it to be a good value, which made me worry about this product. At 56% off (I bought this for $13.16) I was worried it may not be 'official SONY merchandise'. Especially as the image of the item varied greatly from the adapter / charger that came with my 3000 system.
However, when the item arrived I found that this was for the better. An issue of 'you get what you pay for'. The adapter I got 'free' with my system was very bare bones. Just what you needed to get the job done. The wiring that gave out on my initial adapter was thin and it tore in the cord casing quickly and without any heavy wear or abuse. The MSRP $30 cord, however, is nice and thick. Seems well insulated. Sturdy.
If you're worried this doesn't look like the adapter you got with your system, don't. It's better. The $30 MSRP on it is a bit steep, but this item seems so far to be of higher quality and worth the price tag. If you prefer to buy SONY branded items for your SONY products, not only is this the only way to go but it's also a reasonable purchase. Especially if you can get it for half off.
